State website: BISD spending more on students while academic progress declining
KFDM News - A new report from the Texas Comptroller's Office shows the Beaumont school district is spending more money per student while academic progress is declining.
The new website -- fastexas.org -- allows you to compare school districts and campuses statewide. It allows you to see the relationship between tax dollars spent per student and the educational outcomes of school districts and campuses.
The report compiles data from the 2012-2013 school year. It lists BISD'S math percentile at 74, down 9 percent from the previous year.
The districts reading percentile is at 34 percent, down 16 percent from the previous year.
The district's composite percentile ranking, which combines both math and reading is 56, which fell 21 percent from the previous school year.
The report list BISD's spending as very high.
According to the Comptroller's Office, the district spent $15,411 per student. However, the report shows the district doesn't have the funds allocated to cover that cost.
