FBI at DETCOG offices, home of executive director Walter Diggles, church

KFDM News has learned FBI agents and officers with other federal law enforcement agencies are at the offices of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments in Jasper, as well as at the home of its executive director, Walter Diggles Sr., and the church at which he's a pastor, as part of an ongoing investigation, according to information KFDM News has received from the FBI.

FBI agents arrived at the locations in Jasper at about 9 a.m. and will spend several hours there, according to Katherine Chaumont, an FBI spokeswoman from its Dallas office.
She wouldn't comment on the nature of the investigation.
Agents in vans and cars are at the DETCOG offices, Diggles' home, and the New Lighthouse Church of God in Christ Ministries in Jasper, at which Diggles is pastor.
"I can confirm that personnel with the FBI, the IRS CID, and ICE (Homeland Security Investigations) are lawfully present at the locations," Shauna Dunlap, FBI spokeswoman in Houston told KFDM News. "However, this activity is related to an ongoing investigation. Additional information can't be released at this time."
KFDM News left a message at Diggles' home for comment. He as been executive director of DETCOG for more than 20 years.

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) served a search warrant at the Jasper office of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) this morning. "We had no prior indication of their interest, but DETCOG and its staff are giving their full cooperation in participating in the investigation," said DETCOG Executive Director, Walter G. Diggles, Sr., "DETCOG has complete annual audits by an outside accounting firm and our programs are under the continual scrutiny of their federal and state funding agencies".
Any additional questions are being referred to DETCOGs Legal Representatives; Greg Longino and Lisa Flournoy, in Lufkin. Flournoy is a Former Assistant United States Attorney, Eastern District of Texas.
