Former Gulf States Utilities CEO Joe Donnelly has died

BEAUMONT - The man who oversaw the merger of Gulf States Utilities and Entergy has passed away.

Joe Donnelly joined Gulf States Utilities in 1979, and within 13 years became its chairman, president and CEO.

Donnelly took the energy giant through it's merger with Entergy and remained with the company for awhile as a director and vice chairman.

Donnelly served on numerous hospital and bank boards around Beaumont.

He died Saturday at Harbor Hospice.

He was 84.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Broussard's.
