Mardi Gras kicking off in Port Arthur
PORT ARTHUR - The 22nd Annual Southeast Texas Mardi Gras kicked off in Port Arthur today.
Procter Street was already filled with food vendors and carnival rides earlier Thursday and many streets in downtown Port Arthur were shut down near the area where the carnival and pavilion will host this year's Mardi Gras celebration.
Police said they will have at least six other police agencies helping patrol the streets. The department said there will be officers at every entrance and cameras set up at a command center.
The Courir Parade began this afternoon at 4:45 p.m. Concerts are scheduled to take place after that beginning tonight at 6 p.m.
