Beaumont Board of Realtors wants BISD board members and superintendent to resign

BEAUMONT - KFDM News has learned the Beaumont Board of Realtors is calling for the school superintendent and the school board to resign.

The Beaumont Board of Realtors says a scathing report the state released earlier this month is prompting its request.

The Texas Education Agency says the BISD board and the superintendent have failed to monitor and manage the district's finances in a number of areas.
The statement reads as follows:

The Beaumont Board of Realtors supported the school bond and had trust in BISD to properly manage taxpayer funds.

The public trust has been violated and, therefore, we call for the resignations of Dr. Timothy Chargois and the BISD Board of Trustees due to their reported failure to manage and monitor the districts finances as outlined in the Texas Education Agencys preliminary investigative report dated March 6, 2014.

The report outlines the following violations of the Texas Education Code, as well as others, which exposed the district to the risks of internal and external fraud, waste and abuse:

The board of trustees failed to monitor the district's finances by insuring that the superintendent or his designee implemented internal controls and procedures to protect the district's resources from fraud waste and abuse.  This is in violation of the Texas Education Code.

The superintendent failed to manage the day-to-day operations of the district by not implementing internal controls and procedures to protect the district's resources from fraud waste and abuse.

The superintendent failed to manage the day-to-day operations of the district by failing to insure that adequate processes and controls were in place to achieve BISD desired results.

The superintendent failed to monitor the district's purchasing and procurement processes, procedures and activities.
The Beaumont Board of Realtors remains committed to seeing that our district's students receive the quality education they deserve, and which BISD has historically and proudly provided through wonderfully committed teachers and support staff, without the distractions, turmoil and embarrassment of the Board's and administration's reported recent actions and misconduct.

We look forward to BISD's prompt reorganization and reform by adopting the guidelines and controls mandated by the Texas Education Agency and by law.

We join with other parents, citizens and civic leaders in standing ready to help BISD rebuild its educational excellence, integrity, credibility and respect within our community and throughout the state.
