LIVE: Nederland Heritage Festival kicks off
The Nederland Heritage Festival is back again. The festival has been around since 1973 and it's something Mid-County takes a lot of pride in.
KFDM's Leslie Rangel reported live in Nederland with what the festival can do for Nederland.
It's the start of ticket sales at the Nederland Heritage Festival.
The lines are long, but wristband after wristband the sales don't stop.
"I'm buying a ticket for my son and his girlfriend," one festival goer said.
And with each coupon being sold for a dollar a piece, the money adds up.
"Oh gosh, I'm not sure, probably at least $50-60 I'd say," another festival goer said.
That amount doesn't include all the food and games.
Despite the hefty prices, some don't mind it digging into their wallets.
"We're having a real good time and I'm glad it's going to a real good cause," the festival goes says.
He's talking about the money, it all stays local to help the city of Nederland.
"Specifically I think they use it for scholarships for Nederland students," Chris Duque, Nederland city manager says.
And all these carnival rides help pay for other things too.
"Throughout the years they've been very supportive to the police department in granting us money that we wouldn't normally be able to support through our budget process," Police Chief Darrell Bush says.
A festival that brings thousands of people together, not only for smiles and fun, but to help the growing community.
