Law enforcement officers in Orange searching for man who ditched his 18-wheeler to run from trooper

ORANGE - Troopers and other law enforcement officers were chasing a man Sunday night who ditched his 18-wheeler and took off running when a trooper pulled him over.

UPDATE: Monday, March 10 at 7:15 p.m. Law enforcement officials still searching for the man. DPS spokeswoman Stephanie Davis said there was nothing in the 18-wheeler. Trooper Davis said the man had a warrant out for his arrest for violation of probation. She said it is unknown at this time what crime landed him probation.

An Orange police officer says the 34-year-old has a warrant for his arrest. The trooper tried to pull the man over at about 8:35 p.m. Sunday on I-10 and Highway 62 near Flying J truck stop.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a trooper pulled the man over for an equipment violation. The trooper had the man pulled into the truck stop for safety purposes, and that's when he got out of the truck and took off running.

At approximately 8:35pm, Trooper Salter conducted a traffic stop on a commercial motor vehicle on Interstate 10 near Highway 62 in Orange County.  The traffic stop was for an equipment violation.  After making the initial contact with the driver, the driver was allowed to pull into the parking lot of the Flying J truck stop for safety reasons.  Once in the parking lot, the driver immediately ran from the vehicle.  Trooper Salter requested back-up units to the Flying J truck stop to search for the driver.  At this time, DPS, with the assistance of Orange police, continues the search for the driver.

The driver of the truck tractor is a 34 year old male from Tennessee.

Further details will be released as it becomes available.
