Man shot at party in Jasper

JASPER - One man is in the hospital and another was taken to jail following a shooting Wednesday in Jasper.

According to police, the shooting occurred shortly after 3 a.m. at a home in the 3000 block of East Childers Street. Investigators say there was a party going on when a fight broke out.

Police say a 34-year-old Ricky Mitchell left the party, but later returned and tried to force his way into the home. That's when, investigators say, Mitchell and another man began to struggle over a shotgun.

Mitchell was shot in the shoulder when the gun went off.  He was flown by medical helicopter to a Houston hospital.

The other man was arrested and is expected to be charged with aggravated assault.
