NAACP, Ministers Union want to dispel what they call misinformation about views on BISD

BEAUMONT - The Beaumont chapter of the NAACP and the Ministers Union of Beaumont and Vicinity want to dispel what they call untruths concerning the views African-Americans hold about criminal activity in BISD and the education of African-American students, according to information the Beaumont NAACP executive director provided to KFDM News.

Paul Jones told us the NAACP and Ministers Union of Beaumont and Vicinity will hold a news conference Wednesday afternoon at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Jones became Executive Director of the Beaumont chapter of the NAACP in October.

"I want to respond to some issues," Jones said to KFDM News. ""There seems to be a stigma that maybe black people don't really care about criminal activity in BISD. That as long as the suspects are black it's okay. We must debunk that. We don't condone criminal activity. We're a law-abiding people and we're concerned about the quality of education for our children. There was a statement at a board meeting about the gap between white and black students. Some people may think that blacks don't care about the quality of education of our kids. We're also concerned about the unfair demonizing of the district."

Jones says he'll speak at the news conference, as will the president of the Beaumont chapter of the NAACP and members of the Ministers Union.
