Jasper County worker shot during home burglary

JASPER COUNTY - A 75-year-old man is recovering Friday night from a gunshot wound to his chest while Jasper County investigators search for three men who attacked him.

Sheriff Mitchel Newman tells KFDM News that three men broke into Doug Bean's home on County Road 823, off Highway 62, south of Evadale.

They unplugged his television and other items, likely getting ready to steal the property and walked outside carrying several buckets of change from the home.

Bean was returning at the same time and the sheriff says he probably startled the men.  One shot him in the chest.
The bullet missed his vital organs, and Sheriff Newman told us Bean is doing well after surgery.
The attackers left in a tan or gold, older model Chevrolet with an "E" as the first letter on the license plate.

The sheriff says Bean mows lawns for the Precinct 4 Commissioner's Office.

He is well known for cooking at fundraisers in the community,
