Fair opening ceremonies to go ahead as planned
UPDATE: KFDM News has learned that the South Texas State Fair's opening ceremonies will take place today at 5:30 p.m. and the gates will open at 6 p.m.
Organizers say they will be prepared to make changes should that be necessary due to the weather.
BEAUMONT - Organizers of the South Texas State Fair tell KFDM News they expect to make a decision this afternoon on whether to go ahead with opening ceremonies.
Chris Colletti with the Young Men's Business League says they'll monitor the storms expected to move across the area Thursday afternoon and check with KFDM Chief Meteorologist Greg Bostwick at about 3 p.m. YMBL officials hope to make a decision by mid afternoon.
Colletti says they could postpone opening ceremonies by several hours until the storms move out or cancel the first night of the fair and start up Friday.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday. The fair opens at 4 p.m. Friday.
Stay with KFDM and kfdm.com and we'll let you know their decision.
