Final results in Jefferson County give Smith, Wiggins primary victories; others in runoffs

Final results came in early Wednesday morning in the primary elections in Jefferson County after voting machine problems delayed the returns.
Raquel West and Stella Morrison are headed for a May runoff in the Democratic Primary race for 252nd Criminal District Court Judge. West received 4,310 votes (39%). Morrison got 3,519 votes (32%) and Nathan Reynolds earned 3,335 votes (29%).
Audwin Samuel and Terrence Holmes are in the Democratic Party runoff for County Court at Law Number 3. Samuel received 4,913 votes (43%) to Holmes' 4,243 votes (37%). Jimmy Hamm earned 2,351 votes (20%).
Jamie Smith received just above 50% to win the Democratic Primary for District Clerk. Smith got 5,835 votes (51%) to Stanley Hatcher's 2,878 votes (25%) and Rose Chaisson's 2,697 votes (24%).
Charlie Wiggins won the Republican Primary for District Clerk with 5,203 votes (56%) to Karen Stewart's 4,127 votes (44%).
Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam is in a Democratic Party runoff for the Precinct 8 position. Gillam received 602 votes (46%). He'll face Kenneth Marks in the May runoff. Marks earned 307 votes (23%). Dawn Polk got 228 votes (17%) while Antoine Freeman received 137 votes (10%) and Don Ray Collins took in 47 votes (3%).
