DPS releases name of fatal accident victim in Newton County

NEWTON COUNTY - The Department of Public Safety has identified a woman killed in a Newton County collision.

Jessica Lynn Torres, 26, of DeRidder, Louisiana, died in the collision at 5:15 p.m. Sunday on FM 363 between Bleakwood and Bon Weir.

According to the DPS, the driver of a 2003 Toyota passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on FM 363 and a 2001 International truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling eastbound. The driver of the Toyota crossed over the double yellow line into the eastbound traffic lane and struck the truck tractor. The driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

After the collision, oil and diesel leaked onto the roadway. TxDOT and HazMat crews are on scene to remove the oil and diesel from the roadway.

The driver of the truck tractor has been identified as Perry Rector, also of Louisiana. Rector was not injured during this crash.
