School staff, students mourn loss of 10-year-old

The Port Arthur school district is offering grief counseling this week to help staff and students deal with the death of a youngster killed when he crossed a busy highway and was struck by a driver.

Ten year old Tyvone Washington attended Booker T. Washington elementary. He was in the fourth grade.

Tyvone and some friends had visited Central Mall Saturday night.

Police say Tyvone was crossing Highway 69 at about 10 p.m. when he was struck by a driver.

The driver told officers she saw several people crossing but was unable to see the 10-year-old year old.

Police have not filed charges against the driver.
