Transportation projects head to SETX
SOUTHEAST TEXAS - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
A number of transportation improvement projects are heading to Southeast Texas in the next four years, with about a dozen scheduled to begin construction Fall 2014, said Bob Dickinson, Director of Transportation and Environmental Resources with the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission.
The projects will affect a number of cities in Jefferson, Orange and Hardin Counties and range in size and scope.
One of the projects involves installing right and left turning lanes on Spur 136 in front of the Huntsman plant in Port Neches.
It's going to improve the access into that facility in which it's going to enhance a major expansion that Huntsman is getting ready to do, said Dickinson.
He also said it will increase safety in the area for drivers coming and going from the plant and those continuing down Spur 136.
Another project would add a right turning lane in front of Vidor Elementary School.
Dickinson said all of the projects have added benefit no matter if the cost of the project is large or small.
It doesn't necessarily have to be the dollar amount of a proposed transportation improvement. It's just the impact it will have on that particular geographical area where it will serve, he said.
Community members will have three more opportunities to attend an informational meeting about the projects.
