Round 2 of isolated showers and thunderstorms dotting the area for lunchtime. These storms should be shortlived. Highs will again reach the lower 90's in most areas. Less coverage of showers as the week progresses. Look for some of the hottest temps to date as we approach the weekend. Mid and upper 90's could be the norm by the weekend.

JeffCo Justice of the Peace candidate seeks recount

JEFFERSON COUNTY - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

Jefferson County Justice of the Peace candidate Dawn Polk, is seeking a recount after a number of problems with the vote tabulation in Tuesdays primary election.

I just felt in my heart that something wasn't right and that's why I'm asking for a recount and I will get it done manually, Polk said.

County Clerk Carolyn Guidry said two problems occurred Tuesday night.

The first involved the poll workers improperly closing the voting machines when the polls closed.

They had to have all of those 12 booths retrieved from the facility and reassemble them, insert the flash cards and close down the polls correctly to accumulate the votes on the flash cards, said Guidry.

She said that caused the delay in getting the early vote totals posted to the web.

When they tried to post them, they ran into another problem.
Guidry said it was a software glitch.

Despite the problems, she said the numbers are accurate.

We're sure about what the report that we've given that these are the actual numbers of the people that voted and we're confident in this, she said.

Polk, on the other hand, isnt quite so sure.

If you're not satisfied, you have that constitutional right to question it, she said. I just want to be satisfied with the numbers, for my satisfaction.

Polk will have until March 14 to request a recount. It costs $1400.

Guidry said she will talk to the poll workers to find out why they didnt follow the proper procedures.
