NAACP, local ministers have message for community

BEAUMONT - A group of Beaumont ministers teamed up with the NAACP to present a strong message about the Beaumont school district.

That message: The black community does not condone unlawful or criminal activities.

The group held a news conference Wednesday afternoon at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

NAACP executive director Paul Jones says there is a misconception that the black community does not care about unlawful actions within the school district.

He said it does and wants the judicial system to run its course without the public making judgments.
Jones and the ministers say they have been silent too long about what they call unfair scrutiny of BISD.

The group encourages people with complaints to come forth with solutions rather than point fingers and argue which, they say, further divides the community.
