Local child taken off life support after car, scooter collision

ORANGE - A child has died after doctors removed him from life support following a collision between his scooter and a car.

Shari Pulliam with Texas Family and Protective Services says doctors at UTMB in Galveston removed 7-year-old Evan Villadsen from life support around 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

Pulliam says doctors kept him alive to allow his family to donate his organs.
Police say Villadsen rode his Thomas the Train scooter into the path of a car Sunday night on Bluebonnett Street in Orange.

Investigators say the driver couldn't avoid the child and wasn't charged. The driver stopped after the accident.

Police also say the family's home was broken into while they were at UTMB. The burglar took playstations and games.
