CPS, police investigating student's claims that principal injured him

BEAUMONT - by Justin Hinton

An Odom Academy student had to go to the emergency room for injuries the very day he made the basketball team, but the injury wasn't from playing the game.

The student claims principal Tillie Hickman hurt him, and now police and Child Protective Services are investigating.

The six-grader's mother, Rose Charles, says principal Hickman snatched her son's phone and in the process Hickman jerked the child's arm on March 4.

Charles took her son to the emergency room, and a discharge report says the student had a sprained wrist, muscle strain and arm pain.

The boy's arm is still in a sling. He's also seeing a physical therapist for rehab for his injuries.

The district is on spring break this week, so stay with KFDM News for updates to this story next week when school officials return.
