Groves PD, municipal court headed to new facility
GROVES - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
The Groves Police Department will soon be moving into a multi-million dollar emergency operation center along with the municipal court.
The whole idea is you can stay in this building around the clock, period, yet still function as a police station over here, multipurpose over here, combination of the two, whatever you need to do, said city marshal, Jeffrey Wilmore.
The idea came together in 2007 and work began in May 2013 after a $2.5 million grant.
We're real proud of the building. We're proud of the fact that we are getting it finished and its going to do the job, he said.
Wilmore says city employees probably could have moved in a few months ago despite bad weather at the beginning of construction and specialty doors that stalled the process.
We're not pressed, he said. We want to make sure everything is just like we want it. It's a one-time deal, so we want it to be right.
His goal is for the police department and court clerks to move into the building by June 1.
The durability of the building with the components and everything that we've put into this thing, what the architects have designed and what the general contractor has built should last, much longer than my lifetime, he said.
