Elderly robbed outside West End Beaumont pharmacies

BEAUMONT-By Jennifer Gordy

Beaumont police are searching for robbers
who have been following elderly people home from businesses
in the West End. Victim Patricia Nethercot says, "It took a few seconds to sink in. I'm being robbed."

About one month ago. Patricia Nethercot had just returned from the CVS pharmacy on Dowlen road.  She'd withdrawn money from the ATM and returned to her apartment complex. Nethercot says, "When I leaned over to get my purse, he come from behind and shoved me and i tried to hang on to my purse, but I guess evidently I kind of made him mad .That's when he shoved me real hard."

The attacker ran away with Nethercot's purse. "He took everything I had in my purse. He had about 700 dollars that he took," says Nethercot.
Nethercot says the robber tried to keep her from getting a good look at him, "I didn't get to see his face. He had on a hooded sweatshirt kind of pulled across his face,. So, I couldn't see his face holding on to it."

Beaumont police say Nethercot is not alone.  During the past three months, at least five elderly victims have been followed home from the CVS pharmacy, HEB store and Walgreens, all on Dowlen.

That's when they're ambushed and robbed.  This is surveillance video from April first. inside the CVS on Dowlen. Police say the man you're looking at followed an elderly man home after the customer had picked up a prescription for his wife at about 9:30 that night.

When he got out of his car at home , he was beaten and robbed and he ended up in the emergency room.  Nethercot says, "I just can't get around as good anymore like when I was young."

Nethercot thinks the attacker is still watching her. She believes the same man walked past her on a sidewalk, turned around, smiled and waved at her. Nethercot says,"And that really has got me scared.  I don't know if he'll try to jump me know, I'm scared."
Scared, but more aware. Nethercot says, "You learn to really look around you.  You don't carry a lot of cash with you and you really really are careful."
Even where you're most comfortable.. in your own neighborhood.
