Business leader marks San Jacinto Day
A Beaumont business leader wants to make sure we all remember San Jacinto Day.
San Jacinto Day, which fell on Monday, marks the decisive battle of the Texas revolution, April 21st 1836.
Oil company owner Eddie Bates of Beaumont says it's important to educate the public about the meaning of San Jacinto Day and the displays outside his home are meant to do just that.
Bates put up flags, banners and a passage about the importance of the day outside his home on 7th Street. More than 600 Mexican soldiers were killed and more than 700 captured during the battle. Nine ayaexans died.
