Superintendent announces community committees to monitor BISD
BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News
Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois has hand-picked a number of community members to serve as chairs of newly created special accreditation committees tasked with discussing the Beaumont school districts issues and helping to find solutions.
I admit, it probably should have been done a little bit sooner, but its always right to do whats right, said Chargois.
He announced the different chairs and the different committees in a board training meeting Tuesday afternoon.
The men and women he selected come from various backgrounds and will serve as co-chairs on one of the following five committees:
Student support services
Board members have also been appointed to committees.
The chairs will be responsible for adding 12-15 more individuals to their committee to complete the move, but the superintendent says there is still more to be worked out, including whether committee meetings will be open to the public or not.
I think today was about establishing camaraderie, creating relationship opportunities, so it was pretty much for those people we invited, but they're all willing to be transparent about what we talked about and what we said, so that's something that we will continue to look at, Chargois said.
Not all of the committee chairs have agreed to sign on to their appointed committee.
I still have concerns, said Mark Haynes, assigned to the governance committee. I think this would be a wonderful tool with a new board of managers, conservators. Thats what I really feel is going to happen.
