NEWTON COUNTY - By Steve W Stewart/KJAS and Rayburn Broadcasting Company

Four people underwent treatment for smoke inhalation after a Wednesday morning fire destroyed a home in Newton County.

According to Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth, the blaze broke out at about 7:30 on Highway 87 South in the Liberty Community.

Duckworth said the Newton Fire Department assisted with the incident, which involved a one story wood frame structure.

According to Duckworth, a space heater is being blamed for the fire.

The names of the injured people were not immediately available.
