Man fires at intruder, receives a surprise

A man fired a shotgun blast at an intruder who crashed through the window of his home and then discovered the intruder was his neighbor.

Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain told KFDM News a man was at home with his wife and their seven month old baby at about midnight when he heard a loud noise.

Cain said someone tried to shoot the lock off the door of the family's home on Old Spurger Highway near Silsbee.

Cain told us the intruder kicked at the door.. then crashed through a front window.  According to the sheriff the homeowner didn't know who it was and fired one shot from a shotgun. It grazed the intruder. Cain says the intruder curled up in a fetal position and began hollering at the homeowner saying: "I need help. They're chasing me."

The homeowner realized it was his neighbor and held the man at gunpoint until deputies arrive.

The sheriff told KFDM News the suspect will face charges of deadly conduct and perhaps additional charges.
