Pellet plant fully operational following explosion and fire
WOODVILLE - A Woodville industrial plant that was the site of a fire and explosion Monday night is fully operational Tuesday, according to information Mayor Ben Bythewood provided to KFDM News.
No one was hurt in the fire and explosion at the German Pellet plant off Highway 69 in Woodville. People at least half a mile away told us they felt the explosion at about 7:30 p.m. Monday.
The plant opened last year on Highway 69. It makes wood pellets for shipment overseas, primarily to Europe, for use as fuel.
Fire departments from across the region responded. They sprayed water outside the silo that contained burning pellets while the plants emergency systems helped contain the fire inside the silo. They also used foam to help cool the smoldering wood. The mayor says there was a brief flare-up Tuesday morning.
The mayor says the plant is critical to the economy of the area, and he told us "nothing is more important than the safety and security of workers and the public."
