Another hot start for the coast and the lakes. With moisture in place, we could see a repeat of the isolated showers and t-storms as we saw yesterday. Highs today will again reach the lower 90's. By Friday and through the weekend, we will see the moisture out and hot temps on the rise. Look for mid and upper 90's by Sunday and Monday.

Police news release on wreck/fatal shooting

BEAUMONT - from Beaumont Police Department  At about 4:37 a.m. officers responded to a reported minor vehicle crash at the intersection of 11th Street and Laurel Street.  The female caller stated that a man involved in the crash was brandishing a rifle.  The caller hung up and when our 911 operators phoned her back, she said that the man had just shot her friend.

Officers converged on the area and located the female caller.  She was uninjured. The female shooting victim died at the scene.

Officers also found a second shooting victim at the scene.  According to the witness, the suspect shot this second victim, an unrelated passer-by, who had stopped to help at the crash. Beaumont EMS transported the male passerby to St. Elizabeth ER for his gunshot wound.  ER personnel admitted him and listed him in stable condition.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic male, short and heavy-set, with an eye abnormality they described as "cross-eyed."  They last saw him fleeing the area immediately after the shooting.  He was driving a dark colored, older model pickup truck.  He was armed with a rifle.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and are attempting to determine if the female victim, the female witness, and the suspect had a prior relationship.

We consider this suspect armed and dangerous. We ask anyone who has information about his identity to call Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS to leave an anonymous tip.

This incident involved a very widespread, extensive crime scene.  The investigation necessitated the closure of 11th Street for a two-block stretch between Liberty and South Street.  That closure lasted from about 5:00 a.m. through 10:15.  Both northbound and southbound lanes are now re open for traffic.
