Beaumont city council votes to authoritze negotiations for economic development agreement

Beaumont city council wants to see if there's a way to lure a hotel and water park to Ford Park.

Council voted Tuesday to authorize the city manager and city attorney to negotiate an economic development agreement with Jefferson County and developers.

The county is trying to bring a convention hotel and water park to the entertainment complex off I-10.

Commissioners approved incentives for the project Monday and Tuesday council voted to explore the idea. If the $40 million project goes forward it could be finished by next year.
