Prosecutors: Woman forges marriage license to marry man in coma; See woman's plea
KFDM News - A Beaumont woman pleads guilty to third-degree felony theft in a case in which prosecutors say she married a man who is in a coma.
Lenora Denise Reese-Mcnair is accused of forging a marriage license to wed Derek Mcnair. She was taking care of him.
She is also accused of forging documents that sign ownership of the man's house to herself. The house is worth more than $100,000.
She was originally charged with exploiting a disabled individual, but the defense and prosecution reached an agreement.
Mcnair's lawyer says although she's accepting responsibility for theft. She never meant to exploit the man she calls her husband.
The district attorney's office is arguing Reese Mcnair stole the home. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 12.
If the judge accepts the agreement, Reese-Mcnair could go to prison for up to 5 years.
