St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica celebrates historic relics

KFDM News - St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica celebrates a historic relic.

St. Anthony will house the zucchetto, also called a skullcap, of two saints.

The skullcap worn by Pope John the 23rd was installed in a ceremony this morning at the church.

Pope John the 23rd's skullcap joins the one worn by Pope John Paul the 2nd.

The church says it's rare and special that both of the relics are caps the men wore when they were pope.

The skullcap of Pope John the 23rd was a gift to Father Michael Jamail who was the vicar general for the Diocese of Beaumont in 1960.

For more than 50 years, the skullcap was kept for safekeeping at a monastery in Lafayette.

Pope John the 23rd and Pope John Paul the 2nd will be canonized by Pope Francis on April 27.
