BISD superintendent and board president in Austin to meet with TEA commissioner

BEAUMONT - The Beaumont school superintendent and board president are in Austin where they met with education Commissioner Michael Williams.

TEA spokeswoman Deetta Culberton told KFDM News the meeting with Dr. Timothy Chargois and Gwen Ambres began at 4 p.m. this afternoon (Friday).

Williams is deciding whether to follow a staff recommendation that he should order a takeover of the Beaumont Independent School District.

On April 6, Williams traveled to Beaumont to meet with the superintendent and board members.

Williams says he'll make a decision soon.

We've learned Williams held a conference call late Friday afternoon with the student body presidents of the three high schools in BISD to get their input.

Thursday night, Williams held a teleconference to allow community input. Nearly 900 calls came in, and Williams spoke with about three dozen people. Most stayed on the line for about one hour to listen.
