Lumberton police, troopers, examining re-enactment of fatal crash
LUMBERTON - The Lumberton Police Department is working with state troopers Wednesday night to examine the results of a re-enactment of a fatal crash.
Two sisters, Connely Burns, 20, and Courtney Sterling, 15, died in the February 3 crash near intersection of Highway 69 and 96 in Lumberton. Burns' unborn son also died. Their mother was hurt.
Police have charged a suspect, Crystal Boyett of Kirbyville, with three counts of manslaughter. Officers say she was traveling at more than 100 mph shortly before she crashed into the family's car.
The Texas Department of Public Safety took measurements Wednesday and gathered other information about the fatal collision.
The agency is working with the Lumberton Police Department, which has jurisdiction in the case.
Police Chief Danny Sullins is waiting for a toxicology report to learn whether the suspect was intoxicated.
