Jasper makes first heroin drug bust in years

JASPER - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

Chief Robert MacDonald says the Jasper Police Department has made its first heroin drug bust in years and now hes working to make sure it doesnt become a problem.

I'm asking my narcotics officers to debrief all the people that get arrested that they don't know that they can talk to to see if we have a problem, where we have a problem and if we do then we need to do more intradiction, said MacDonald.

He said the heroin epidemic in the northeastern United States is starting to spread westward and into the rural areas.

He says it hasnt become a problem in Jasper yet and doesnt want it to.

My biggest fear is that it would make its way into the schools, he said.

He said that is not the case and his officers are addressing it before it gets to that point.
