Man who kidnapped teen with Down Syndrome charged with sexual assault

MAGNOLIA, Texas - by Malini Basu and KHOU 11 News and

Family members were on their way to Harlingen to get a missing 14-year-old Magnolia girl who was found safe Wednesday morning.

The girl disappeared on Monday. Detectives found her safe about 360 miles away from her home.

"She is fine, she is a little scared, because no one is with her. They asked us if we can head down there to pick her up," said Patrick Rex, the teen's father.

"I just want to hug her. Thatas it. I just want to wrap her in my arms and hug her and not let her ever go," said Jennifer black, the teenager's mother.

Her parents said she has a touch of Down Syndrome, autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD).

Detectives found the teenager and 51-year-old Randy Johnson at a trailer park home in Harlingen, where he used to live. They tracked him down through his cell phone.

Johnson worked with the victim's father. Johnson moved in with the family after telling them he was battling colon cancer for the second time and had nowhere to go.

They said they kicked him out after he got a little too friendly with their daughter.

"I mean we were literally listening to every conversation, and it was in code," said the girlas mother. "So once we decided what the codes were, it was like, you have to go, you can't be here. The people he is associated with took him out of this area because of all the trouble that started. He speaks Spanish and he can get into the border, he can do anything that he wants."

On Monday, the girl walked outside to check the mail at the community mailbox and never came home.

"Everybody told me, the last time they saw her was by the mailbox on a cell phone. How did she get the cell phone? I just took a cell phone from her. He had got her another cell phone," said Rochelle Laridon, the teenas aunt.

Johnson was at the Cameron County Jail on Wednesday, being held on kidnapping charges and aggravated sexual assault of a child.
