Lumberton transgender teacher returning to work in different capacity

A Lumberton transgender teacher says she will return to work Tuesday morning but not as a substitute teacher.

Laura Jane Klug was suspended from her substitute teacher duties earlier this month. Community members and parents gathered at a school board meeting two weeks ago to share opinions for and against her keeping her job.

Klug was told she would be reinstated to her full duties but hasn't been at work the past week. Monday she said she met with HR and the superintendent. She says they offered her a new position with the district.

Klug tells KFDM she agreed not to share where she would be placed because there were still parents who don't want her working for the district.
