Superintendent discusses extra security at West Orange-Stark HS following threat

ORANGE COUNTY - The West Orange Cove superintendent tells KFDM News he's put in place additional security after a student made a threat following a fight.

James Colbert says two students fought Tuesday during a class at the beginning of the school day.

"Appropriate disciplinary actions were taken with both students," Colbert told KFDM News. "One was leaving with his parents and made some remarks that could be considered a threat. He was probably mad and emotional that he was being disciplined. We as administrators thought that because of the rumor mill and the fact the threat could be distorted, that we need to make sure we're taking it seriously. So we decided to put extra security in place. It'll remain in place as long as it's needed."

Colbert told us administrators sent a recorded telephone message to the homes of all parents so they'd be aware of the facts.

"I have full confidence in administrators at the campus and in the law enforcement of Orange County," said Colbert. "We added some security because we take all threats seriously, even when they make threats after an emotional situation like a fight. Kids may joke about it but they like the sense of security when administrators take action."
