Girl Scouts buy school supplies for teachers

BEAUMONT - By Justin Hinton, KFDM News

A group of 5th graders at Regina Howell Elementary School have raised more than $700 to buy school supplies for their teachers.

"They had to pay out of pocket for all of the school supplies, extra school supplies after they ran out, so we thought that maybe we could make it to where the teachers didn't have to pay out of pocket for everything," said Trinity Ardoin.

The girls started last spring and would place baskets in different classes at school.

Each day, they would pick up the baskets.

"At first, I didn't really expect a lot of kids to bring in money, but now that I look at it, they really helped a lot and I appreciate it," said Lauren Naas.

While the members of Troop 4298 are helping out their teachers, they're also earning their way to the Bronze Award, the highest level of achievement at the junior level for the Girl Scouts.

"We're going to keep this at Regina or maybe it might spread to another school," said Olivia Wall.

The girls plan to deliver the supplies to their teachers on Friday.
