Educators group says it's "appalled" by 300 potential job cuts in BISD
BEAUMONT - From ATPE
The Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) is urging Beaumont ISD trustees to stop wasting the district's resources on legal fees and fighting the Texas Education Commissioner's decision to appoint a board of managers. The organization is usually a strong supporter of local control, however, in this case ATPE supports the Texas Education Agency (TEA) getting involved.
"It is unfortunate that teachers and other district employees have to be dragged through this mess and suffer the consequences for the district's mismanagement," Beaumont ATPE president Suellen Ener said. "We remain committed to our students."
ATPE is disappointed in the district's stall tactics in seeking a temporary restraining order to delay the TEA from stepping in. Given the district's financial woes and the inevitable removal of the school board, spending money on legal and attorney's fees is a waste of the district's resources.
ATPE represents more than 500 members in BISD, and encourages anyone concerned they may be a part of the reduction in force (RIF) to contact the ATPE state office.
