Off duty PAPD officer helps capture suspect, accused of taking items from Wal-mart

PORT ARTHUR - An off-duty Port Arthur police officer helped capture a suspect, accused of stealing items from a Wal-mart.

The man who was reported running away from the Groves Wal-mart was caught a short time later by an off duty officer working security at Five-Point Credit Union on Highway 73. 

The guard saw a man fitting the description, coming out of the woods and getting into a vehicle.

He called for backup, and officers were able to pull the car over.

The suspect was taken in for an 'outstanding local warrant, and one of the  two women in the car was also taken into custody on unrelated charges.
