Driver snatches purse, drags woman down road
ORANGE - by Lauren Huet
A purse snatching, a dragging, and a chase. Investigators in Orange are talking to witnesses and looking at evidence to see how the elements of a crime fit together. Twenty-eight year old Eyeshea Brown is in the Orange County Jail, facing charges of aggravated robbery and evading detention.
"About noon today, one of our officers drove up on a crime in progress," said Captain Cliff Hargrave, with the Orange Police Department. "A female was walking in the 200 block of 10th Street and another female in a vehicle stopped."
Police tell us Brown drove up to a woman who was walking down the street, near 10th and Polk Street, then stopped her small SUV and grabbed the victim's purse. The victim didn't let go and was dragged for a short distance.
"Yes, she is injured, she has a head injury and was transported to a hospital by ambulance," said Captain Hargrave.
An officer in the area witnessed the robbery and drove after the suspect. Other officers joined the chase, and pursued the suspect through several streets in the East side of the city. The chase ended at the Oaks Apartments, where police blocked in the woman's car. The arrest happened right in front of Christa Provost's apartment.
"At first we saw police just fly [by]. We were sitting on the couch, then all of the sudden they came like SWAT!" said Provost.
The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away.
"And she parked and broke out that car door, cops were surrounding her like she wasn't going nowhere, and when they body slammed her, her wig came off," said Provost.
Police recovered the victim's purse. The victim was taken to Christus Hospital Saint Mary in Port Arthur. Officers say Brown has been arrested before.
