BISD superintendent accused of keeping a settlement secret

BEAUMONT - Beaumont Independent School District paid nearly $150,000 to the family of a special needs student whose parent accused the district of failing to provide for her child. Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois and the child's mother signed off on the settlement.

Board member Mike Neil says the board was not made aware of the settlement. Board policy states the superintendent must consult the board for settlements that exceed $50,000.

Neil said he asked the superintendent about the settlement. Neil says the Dr. Chargois told him there was no settlement.
