Memorial to fallen officers
BEAUMONT - Law enforcement officers from across Southeast Texas attended a memorial for fallen officers Wednesday morning at the Beaumont Police Department.

This year's Southeast Texas Police Memorial ceremony took place from 9-9:30 a.m. at the police memorial located in front of the Beaumont Police Department.
The ceremony paid homage to local officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. The ceremony also honored surviving family members of those fallen officers. More than 40 family members representing eleven fallen officers from five regional law enforcement agencies attended the ceremony. Each took an active role in the ceremony by placing a rose in the memorial wreath during the service.
The local ceremony is one of thousands that take place across the nation in recognition of National Police Week. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week.
