Man sentenced in sexual assault case of two young girls

A 53-year-old Kirbyville man was sentenced for 20-years Monday to the sexual assault of two young girls.

Gene Holbert had pleaded guilty on April 21 to two counts of sexual assault

When the younger of the two girls said that he had been assaulting her over a period of years, the older girl revealed that she had been similarly abused by the defendant, according to a news release.

An examination by a sexual assault nurse and scientific testing led to DNA evidence in connection with the younger victim after a sample was provided by Holbert, the release stated.

The odds of someone other than the defendant being the attacker were calculated at approximately 1 in 129 trillion, the release stated.
