Chargois asks for support from teachers' associations in effort to reduce expenses by cutting jobs
The Beaumont school superintendent tonight asked for support from teachers' associations in his effort to cut hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars from the budget.
A committee of three board members and others met with Dr Timothy Chargois Tuesday to talk about the proposed cuts.
Doctor Chargois emailed a letter to employees Friday telling them he wants to reduce the workforce by 225 contract jobs.. and 75 'at-will' positions.
He says BISD must cut expenses by $25 million dollars.
According to state law the board must approve a resolution declaring a financial emergency in order for the superintendent to lay off workers.
Trustees are scheduled to meet Thursday to consider the resolution. Dr. Chargois told the consultation committee Tuesday that he is the superintendent and he has to solve what he calls "this major issue."
