Just a few showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the next few days due mainly to daytime heating.  A much better coverage of rain can be expected Thursday into Friday as a cold front moves in from the northwest.  This front will bring us cooler and drier air over the weekend.

One person cited following two-vehicle accident

One person was cited following a two-vehicle crash at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 124 and Martine Road in Hamshire, Trooper Stephanie Davis said.

A 2012 Dodge truck was stopped in the northbound lane on Highway 124 waiting to make a left turn onto Martine Road when the vehicle was struck from behind by a 2002 Honda passenger vehicle, Davis said.

The 47-year-old driver of the 2012 Dodge truck, Hamshire resident Sheryl Matthews, was not injured, however the 36-year-old driver of the 2002 Honda, Hamshire resident Dane Shellhammer, was trapped in his vehicle for about 30 minutes before being removed by emergency personnel, Davis said.

Shellhammer was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries and Shelhammer's 3-year-old child was secured only by a seat belt in the backseat and was not injured, Davis said.

Shellhammer was cited for failure to control speed and having a child under eight not secured by a safety seat system.
