UPDATE: Major accident brings down power lines, slows traffic

UPDATE: I-10 and the service road are now open, BPD's Doug Kibodeaux said, but traffic is still slow, so drivers are advised to use caution.

A major accident took place when a vehicle struck a pole causing power lines to go down Friday on I-10 near College, said Doug Kibodeaux with the Beaumont Police Department.

The power lines are now on the vehicle and Entergy is on the scene trying to deal with the live wires, Kibodeaux said.

The service road is shut down, only one southbound lane of I-10 is open near College and everything on northbound I-10 is open but moving slowly, Kibodeaux said.
