Two people taken into custody in connection with stolen travel trailer

Two people were taken into custody into connection with the theft of a travel trailer at around 7:20 a.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of Texas Avenue near the Bridge City area of Orange County, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office investigated a report of a stolen travel trailer which had been parked the day before near a business that had video surveillance, a news release stated.

After viewing the recorded video, it was discovered that a white man and a white woman drove up to the travel trailer in a white Ford SUV sometime late Wednesday afternoon and then returned several hours later after dark, the news release stated.

KFDM News learned that when they returned the second time, they hooked up to the trailer and drove away.

A sheriff's patrol deputy working in the north Vidor area of Orange County spotted a travel trailer being pulled by a white SUV around 8 a.m., the release stated.

After getting close to the trailer, the deputy read the license plate and determined that it was the stolen trailer, the release stated.

He followed behind the trailer as it headed north and was able  to stop and detain the two people on FM 105 in Jasper County, the release stated.

Jasper County Justice of the Peace Debbie Berry arrived on the scene to hold a hearing enabling the Orange County deputy to detain both people and transport them across the county line to the Orange County Jail.

The man, later identified as 33-year-old Jacob Lee Childree of Stowell, and the woman, identified as 35-year-old Amanda Brooke Manuel of Buna, the release stated.

Both of them were booked for third degree felony theft and remain in custody with no bond, awaiting arraignment.  The owner of the travel trailer was able to recover his property.
