Three-vehicle crash occurs on Rainbow Bridge
Three people were injured following a three-vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle at about 11 a.m. on the Rainbow Bridge in Orange County, according to the Department of Public Safety.
A 2007 GMC passenger vehicle was disabled and stopped on the Rainbow bridge and a 2009 Hino flatbed truck was traveling west on the Rainbow Bridge and stopped behind the disabled vehicle, a news release stated.
A 2013 GMC pickup truck, also traveling west on the Rainbow Bridge, failed to control its speed and collided with the back of the Hino flatbed truck and the impact of the collision pushed the Hino truck into the back of the disabled vehicle, the release stated.
The 57-year-old driver of the 2007 GMC passenger vehicle, Beaumont resident Patricia Owens, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries and the 57-year-old driver of the Hino flatbed truck, Beaumont resident Byron Cormier, was transported to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries.
The 30-year-old driver of the 2013 GMC truck, Jasper resident Thomas Thompson, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was cited for failure to control speed.
The Rainbow Bridge was closed for a short period following the crash but re-opened at around 11:30 a.m.
