New fire station may be on the way in WD10
NEDERLAND- by Haley Bull
A new fire station may be on the way in Water District 10 in Central Gardens in Nederland following Saturday's election. Early voting indicated the $1 million bond passing 152 to 83 with 99 percent of the vote reporting.
If passed, the a new 5,000 sq. ft. fire station for the water district would be built at the intersection of Spurlock Rd. and Price St. It would replace the current decades-old station on Central Boulevard.
The water district was created in the 1950's, servicing about 300 families in a 300 acre area. Since then, the district has grown to service more than 5,000 people. Supporters said the new location would improve the fire department's response time to areas in the water district.
The bond would cost taxpayers about 3 cents per $100 tax value. Construction would start in about 6 months.
