LU public radio station celebrates anniversary

Lamar University's public radio station 91.3 KVLU is celebrating 40 years on the air.

It was called KFLU 40 years ago when Dr. John Gray went over the air  in the inaugural program.

It's first broadcast occurred on April 30th, 1974 and it was attended by university officials the station then broadcast its first program, NPR's "All Things Considered".

Over the 40 years the community has back KVLU and the station in turn wants to reach more listeners.

The station plans to have celebrations throughout the year to mark the occasion of it's first broadcast forty years ago.
